This procedure known as Gingivectomy (commonly known as “Gum Recountouring”) is often done for patients who have gummy smile or prior their Smile Makeover with veneers. 😁

It “reshapes” the gums by removing the excessive parts, giving the tooth a proper crown ratio thus a better appearance.

Is it painful? Nope, as it will be done under local anaesthesia (“numbing”).

Is it dangerous? No as your dentist will make sure that the biological width (the “danger border”) is not violated.

I commonly use laser to carry out my Gingivectomy treatments as the result is more predictable, not to mention it does not cause bleeding (in fact, it helps stop bleeding!) and jagged edges. Of course it can be carried out with scalpel blade as well.🦷

How long can it last? The result is permanent....unless you don’t take care of your oral hygiene and end up with a lot of inflamed, swollen gums! (I wouldn’t do Gingivectomy for patients with poor oral hygiene, proper oral health is foundation 🏡)

How many of you know about this treatment? Leave a “😍” in the comment section if you’ve never seen this procedure before!
